MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS in Phase Three of Outreach: November 2011 – December 2012

    • With help from the House Vision Caucus, Going Blind screened on Capitol Hill on September 19, 2011 with a special introduction by Senator John Boozman (R, AR).
    • Going Blind was broadcast over 230 times on public television stations across the country reaching over 50% of the country.
    • Over 100 Outreach Partner organizations came on board to support the public television broadcast initiative with many hosting screenings at the same time as the broadcast to increase awareness raising.
    • The National Eye Institute sponsored a webinar on Going Blind and Going Forward on September 5, 2012 to teach organizations how to use Going Blind as a tool to raise awareness. A record-breaking 400 registered for the event.
    • Speaking engagements for Joseph Lovett continued through 2012 and included two keynote presentations for JCAHPO conferences.
    • Going Blind was reviewed in 4 library journals leading to an increase in sales to libraries.
    • The educational use DVD has been licensed to over 245 organizations around the world including blind service organizations, Veterans Affairs, medical institutions, schools, libraries and other institutions.
    • The film has been used in educational curricula in 5 programs. The American Academy of Ophthalmology reports they’ve used it in 28 academic departments throughout Canada and the United States.
    • The Outreach continues to connect individuals and organizations together, fostering interdisciplinary relationships within the blind and visually impaired community
    • Social media increased substantially in 2012 with over 750 Facebook likes, over 960 Twitter followers and over 4,400 video views on YouTube.
