This October, the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel (JCAHPO) is hosting a webinar series on the Going Blind and Going Forward Outreach Campaign. “Going Blind and Going Forward: Pearls and Resources for the Eye Care Team,” will include three webinars on blind and low vision rehabilitation tools and resources. JCAHPO’s membership is comprised of ophthalmic allied health personnel including assistants, technicians, and medical technologists. At their 2012 annual convention, Joe provided the keynote address to a sold out audience of over 600 attendees. Since then we have developed a relationship with the organization, which is eager to train their members in patient education and empowerment.
Presented in weekly installments, the series began on October 15 with Eydie Miller-Ellis, MD, Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Director of the Glaucoma Division at Scheie Eye Institute. Dr. Miller-Ellis will discuss the importance of the ophthalmic technician in recognizing patients who may benefit from low vision services.
Tonight, Tuesday October 22, Joseph Lovett, Writer, Producer, and Director of the acclaimed documentary Going Blind, along with Going Blind & Going Forward Outreach Coordinators Julie Gaynin & Mike Thibodeau, will present a patient’s perspective on vision loss.
Completing the series on October 29 is Priscilla Rogers, PhD, VisionAware Program Manager, American Foundation for the Blind (AFB), who will co-present with Neva Fairchild, National Independent Living Associate for AFB. Together, they will provide low vision assistance options available to the eye care team and patients alike.
All presentations are FREE and will take place at 8:30 pm EST. Sign up at: http://public.jcahpo.org/JCAHPO/Events/List/Core/Events/Events.aspx>
